This is the message I have on my Ebay store. Some of the information on my blog is here so if you read that no need to read this. I am asking people here to spread the word. Please don't buy or sell on Ebay for as long as you can.
MY STORE IS CLOSED
I am participating in the boycott of Ebay until the end of the month May 31st. I wont be buying or selling during that time and I ask you to join me. I have also decided to pay for this store and not close it so you can read this message. Please do.
For me the biggest problem is the new Ebay search engine. It is useless and doesn't work. I could easily double the length of this review if I were to get into how cumbersome and ineffectual it is.
Customer service has always been inconsistent since I've been here; over 5 years now. I've had some problems eventually taken care of but others have never been solved at all. I have seen inconsistent turn into non-existent.
Here is a quick illustration of my annoyance. I emailed customer service many times with the problems I was encountering with the new search engine. I was very specific. Two days latter they would send back canned email responses having nothing to do with my problem. When I took the time to complain about the delayed canned responses. I got a canned email back giving me a link for the Ebay suggestion box. Needless to say I was stunned.
I finally decided to turn to the Ebay community to vent and eventually found out that the new search was just a test and I could opt-out; something that non of the customer service representatives bothered to mention.
Feedback is changing; in addition, a recently added feature called DSRs will now be a part of the "new" search and the ramifications of both seem to be negative. Ebay assures us that any negative impact will be addressed by customer service. Given my previous example and other horror stories from both buyers and sellers it's hard to take Ebays assurances seriously.
Oh...and Ebay has raised fees again. But this time they did it with a twist. I have to admit I was fooled; for awhile. They rolled out a reduction in initial fees. And touted it "victoriously"; well at least in my case. What I and other sellers didn't realize; was that they raised other fees which resulted in a net increase. Fees rise...I understand that but to insult ones intelligence is what is really annoying.
These changes and others will cause sellers to leave. You the buyer will have less options. Fewer sellers means less competition and that will mean higher prices.
I have low expectations but high hopes. The window of opportunity is now please do what ever you can.
Rock - thanks for sharing the info. As mentioned, there is a lot of lessons for Silkfair to learn from all this happenings at eBay, so that we can build up and stay as a viable and fair solution for both buyers, sellers and Silkfair.
That looks useful for someone who doesn't already have Photoshop or similar photo processing software. Looks like the process is about the same as in photoshop
